It is with great pleasure that we announce that two of our VWSD students have advanced to the 2025 Mississippi Spelling Bee in Columbus, Mississippi on March 21-22, 2025 at the Mississippi University of Women. The students are Malcolm Lewis, 5th Grade, Bowmar Elementary School and Norberto Nadal-Troche, 8th Grade, Academy of Innovation. The students from Mississippi counties with the highest scores on the online semi-final round moved on to compete in the state-level competition. It was a very competitive process. Malcolm and Norberto scored in the top 25. We would like to thank the school-level coordinators, Ms. Magen Westcott at Bowmar and Mrs. Samantha Hawn Ross at the Academy of Innovation. The district spelling bee coordinator is Dr. La’Tonya Jackson.
