Warren Central Intermediate music teacher Marcia Cochran took the stage with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, October 29, playing flute and piccolo on two songs as part of a children’s concert for VWSD students at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

Cochran joined the orchestra during the first of two performances. About 1,000 students attended the 9:45 show and about 850 attended the 11:15 show.

She has played with the symphony for more than 20 years, mostly as a substitute flute player. She auditioned for the orchestra in September 2025 and is now starting her second season as third flute and piccolo. “I’ve enjoyed playing with the symphony, and it’s been a lot of fun,” Cochran said.

She said the concert matters most for what it puts in front of students. “These children’s concerts are really important. I’m so glad that the students could come from the district,” Cochran said. “It’s so important for them to hear music from classical composers, different styles of music than what they’re usually used to. I think it exposes them to so much more and helps them become a well-rounded individual.”

The district thanks the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra for bringing the music to students.
