VICKSBURG, Miss. â The Vicksburg Warren School Districtâs accountability score rose eight points this year, even as the state raised the bar for every letter grade
Nine of the districtâs 16 schools grew in points. Dana Road Elementary jumped 95 points. South Park Elementary gained 81, Vicksburg Junior High School 68, Warren Central Intermediate 67 and Sherman Avenue Elementary 64.
Vicksburg Intermediate School grew 55 points and earned a B for the first time in accountability history.
For the second time in four years, the district has no F schools. No school scored under 200.
The gains came under tougher standards. The Mississippi Department of Education raised the points schools and districts must earn for each letter grade beginning with the 2025-26 school year, as state law requires once statewide results reach certain benchmarks. The state says the new standards set a new baseline, so this year's grades cannot be directly compared with those from earlier years. The district's score rose eight points, but the higher cut scores moved its letter grade to a C. Under the previous scale, the district would have remained a B.
District leaders credited the gains to teachers who believed in their students and to students who showed up and worked hard.
"We welcome the higher standard, and we're proud of the growth our students and teachers delivered so far. This grade is our new starting point, and we will build from here," Superintendent Tori Holloway said.
District leaders said they will continue to make the necessary changes to move up under the new standards.
