Vicksburg Warren School District is proud to share that Athletic Director James Lewis was invited to speak at the Mississippi High School Activities Association's New Principal and Athletic Director orientation, representing our district in front of school leaders from across the state.
Lewis has spent years leading athletic programs here in the district, and his talk focused on the value he places above everything else: keeping students safe.
"We can win a lot of ball games," Lewis told the group. "But if your events are not safe, you're in the wrong business."
He also spoke about the care that goes into every decision behind the scenes, from making sure student athletes are properly enrolled to planning ahead so families always know what to expect on game day.
"I learned early on that I need to plan for game days. It alleviates a lot of confusion when people know what's coming ahead of time," Lewis said.
Lewis closed his remarks the same way he opened them, with a reminder of what matters most.
"We take pride in making sure our events are safe and fun," he said. "And when families come in, they leave the same way they came in."
We are grateful for Coach Lewis's leadership and proud he had the opportunity to represent VWSD on this stage.
