VICKSBURG, Miss. â The Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees met on August 27 for its monthly meeting, bringing forward several exciting updates, celebrating student and staff excellence, and approving key operational changes for the district.
CELEBRATING STUDENT AND STAFF EXCELLENCE
The meeting opened with a spotlight on outstanding achievements within the district. Vicksburg High School junior Jazmine Hester (Class of 2026) was recognized for successfully earning her pharmacy technician certification. Hester completed the certification through the Health and Human Services Academy under the direction of Kimberly Stevens. She is already putting her skills to work professionally as a pharmacy technician at Kroger.
Warren Central High School educator Viktoria Craft was celebrated as the district's Teacher of the Year. In addition to this honor, Mrs. Craft recently completed an NCAC credential program over the summer to earn her Master Teacher Certification.
On the campus level, Vicksburg Intermediate School was recognized for proudly achieving Tier 2 status for its positive behavior interventions and support (PBIS) systems, reflecting the school's ongoing dedication to a supportive student environment.
CAMPUS PROJECTS AND UPDATES
Infrastructure and safety updates were also a priority on the agenda. At Bowmar Elementary, a driveway paving project is currently underway to improve campus access.
Additionally, district officials announced that the large, live oak tree on the Bowmar campus has become a safety hazard and must be removed. To minimize disruption to students and staff, the removal will likely take place over an upcoming school break. Bowmar Principal Dr. Goodwin will be collaborating with the school's PTO to gather ideas on how the campus can appropriately memorialize the tree.
POLICY AND DISTRICT OPERATIONS
Looking ahead to academic and operational initiatives, the board officially renewed the district's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hinds Community College. This partnership continues to drive dual credit opportunities for VWSD students.
In a move to address emerging technologies, the board officially approved a new district policy to guide the appropriate use of AI tools in the educational environment, designated as Policy EFC: Use of Artificial Intelligence.
Finally, the district is thrilled to announce a key addition to its leadership team. Christine Woodberry was approved by the board and will officially step into the role of Chief Financial Officer for the district starting Friday, September 8.
