VICKSBURG, Miss. — Classrooms across the Vicksburg Warren School District began to buzz with excitement today—not with students just yet, but with the return of the heart of every school: its teachers.
Monday marked the official first day back for educators across the district as VWSD launches preparations for the 2025–2026 school year. Teachers returned to their campuses to begin classroom setup, attend professional development sessions, and collaborate with teams to align goals and instructional plans for the year ahead.
Throughout the day, staff members engaged in strategic planning aligned with “Vision 2030: One Community. One District. Growing Together,” the district’s roadmap for advancing teaching excellence, student achievement, and community partnership.
Campuses hosted welcome-back events and informational sessions to help both returning and new staff build momentum before students arrive. Teachers reviewed updated curriculum materials, analyzed student data from the prior year, and mapped out strategies to support learning from the very first day of class.
District administrators, support teams, and building leaders were also on hand to provide guidance, resources, and encouragement, reinforcing the shared commitment to academic growth and school culture.
“The work our teachers begin today sets the tone for everything we hope to accomplish this year,” said Superintendent Dr. Toriano Holloway. “We are proud to welcome back a team of professionals who are passionate, prepared, and ready to do what’s best for children.”
With students scheduled to return on Friday, August 1, VWSD will continue this week with final preparations, professional development opportunities, and student/family engagement events to ensure a strong and successful start to the school year.
