While summer brings a well-deserved break from the classroom, the learning doesn’t have to stop — especially when it comes to reading. Across the Vicksburg-Warren School District, students are being encouraged to pick up books and keep their minds active through summer reading initiatives.
Reading just 15–20 minutes a day can help students maintain the skills they’ve built during the school year and even spark new interests and passions. Whether it’s diving into a new chapter book, exploring graphic novels, or listening to audiobooks on the go, our goal is to make reading fun and accessible for every child.
Families can take part by setting aside quiet reading time at home, visiting the local library, or helping students explore the digital resources available through the district. Summer reading is more than just turning pages — it’s building confidence, creativity, and curiosity.
At VWSD, we know that readers become leaders, and we’re proud of all the students who are taking the time this summer to grow their love for literacy.
