VICKSBURG, MS — Lindsay Adams, a senior at River City High School, has been named a semi-finalist for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship, a prestigious award recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

Adams described her initial reaction as a mix of disbelief and excitement. “I initially wasn’t going to apply because the process seemed so tedious and long,” she said. “But I decided to take a chance, and I’m so glad I did.”

Adams credits her mother for encouraging her to pursue the opportunity. “She pushes me to believe in myself and reminds me that greater things will come,” she said. She also expressed gratitude to several teachers and mentors who have supported her throughout her journey, including Mr. Lawson, Ms. Buxton, and her senior advisor, Mrs. Davis.

An active member of her school and community, Adams highlighted her involvement in Key Club as particularly rewarding. “Helping the community has been very engaging. I enjoy making a positive impact on others,” she said.

Adams has faced her share of challenges, including setbacks in academics. “There was a class where my grade dropped significantly, but I sought resources and communicated with my professor, and I was able to bring it back up to an A,” she said.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation places a strong emphasis on leadership and service, qualities Adams embraces daily. In addition to her volunteer work with the Salvation Army and other local organizations, she assists Taylor Brothers Construction with administrative tasks. “I like to engage with people around me and encourage others who might be hesitant about stepping out of their comfort zones,” she said.

Looking ahead, Adams plans to attend Mississippi State University, where she aims to study civil and mechanical engineering. “Mississippi State is my dream school, and being accepted there is a blessing,” she said.

As for advice to other students, Adams emphasized self-confidence. “Never think less of yourself, because if you do, others might, too,” she said. “Uplifting yourself can inspire others to do the same.”

Adams expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent her school and community. “It’s been humbling and inspiring,” she said. “I’m proud to represent River City on a national level.”

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation annually selects 150 high school seniors from across the United States to receive $20,000 scholarships, making Adams' achievement a testament to her dedication and perseverance.
