Dr. Tori Holloway at The VWSD State of the District Address

VICKSBURG, Miss. — The Vicksburg Warren School District recently hosted its first-ever State of the District addresses, welcoming parents, staff, students, and community members to two zone-based meetings held over the past two Mondays.

The South Zone meeting took place Dec. 8 at Dana Road/Vicksburg Intermediate School, followed by the North Zone meeting on Dec. 15 at Sherman Avenue Elementary/Warren Central Intermediate School. Both sessions provided attendees with an in-depth look at district accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and strategic goals for the future.

VWSD Superintendent Dr. Tori Holloway emphasized transparency, collaboration, and community engagement as central themes of the district’s vision.

“Our goal with the State of the District is to ensure our community understands where we are, where we are going and how every stakeholder plays a role in that journey,” Holloway said. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made, but we are even more excited about the work ahead as we continue to strengthen opportunities for our students.”

District leaders from Athletics, Child Nutrition, Communications, Federal Programs, Finance, Human Resources, Maintenance, Technology, and other departments shared updates highlighting student achievement, operational growth, and district-wide improvements. Principals from participating schools also presented campus-level successes and priorities.

Marcus James, VWSD director of communications, said the district intentionally designed the meetings to foster open dialogue and accessibility.

“This was about meeting our families where they are and creating space for meaningful conversations,” James said. “The State of the District is not just a presentation, it’s a partnership between the district and the community, and these meetings allowed us to celebrate wins while also listening and learning.”

Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and engage with district leadership, reinforcing VWSD’s commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.

Due to positive feedback and community turnout, the district plans to host another State of the District series during the Spring semester to continue the conversation and provide additional updates on district initiatives. More information regarding the upcoming spring meetings will be announced at a later date.
