BOVINA, Miss. — The Vicksburg Warren School District held its first Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Tournament on Wednesday at Clear Creek Golf Course, drawing five teams for a four-man scramble.

The winning team of Casey Fisher, James Knight, Doug Hartsfield, and Larry Carter posted a score of 57 to take first place. Two groups tied for second at 58: Dr. Calvin Masterson, Blake Mandrop, Tim Rodgers and Ron Goldman, along with Coach Kevin Montgomery, Latoria Kerr, John Mondy and Rod Davis.

Fisher, who captained the winning team, said the event was about more than just competition.
“It was an honor to be part of the first Hall of Fame Tournament,” Fisher said. “Our team had a great time, and it was more than just golf. It was about celebrating our community, our athletic history, and the friendships that tie us all together.”

VWSD athletic director James Lewis said he sees the tournament as a growing tradition that also benefits students.
“This tournament is another way to bring our alumni, supporters, and community together while honoring the legacy of athletics in our district,” Lewis said. “It also helps generate money for our students, which makes the event even more meaningful. We are proud to see such strong participation in our first year, and we look forward to building on this success in years to come.”

Hole sponsorships were provided by Lindsay Dedeaux, agent with State Farm; the Red Carpet Bowl Committee, a Mississippi tradition since 1962; and Dr. Stanley J. Sims, owner of Sims Chiropractic Clinic.

District officials said they expect the Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Tournament to become an annual event.
