    The Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) is working closely with Warren County Emergency Management and the MS Department of Health (MDH) on guidance for students, parents, and staff to prepare for and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease on school campuses.

New MSDH Guidelines - September 2020

    What’s New

    1. The isolation and school exclusion period for a positive case of COVID-19 is changed from 14 days to 10 days for consistency with current CDC guidance.

    2. The exposure time to be considered a close contact to a case of COVID-19 is updated to less than 6 feet for 15 minutes cumulative throughout the day.

    3. Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious (naps or sleeping), incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

    4. There is no test out of quarantine; the quarantine period is a full 14 days regardless of any test results during the quarantine period.

    5. People who have tested positive for COVID-19 do not need to quarantine or get tested again for up to 3 months as long as they do not develop symptoms again.

    6. Symptom and temperature screening recommendations added. Temperature of equal to 100○F or higher should be considered fever for screening purposes. 7. School nurses should wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when caring for ill staff or students. Appropriate PPE includes N-95 mask (or surgical mask if N-95 not available) and eye protection (face shield or goggles).

    8. School nurses will not be considered close contacts while wearing appropriate medical PPE.

  • RE: COVID-19 Reporting 

     

    The Vicksburg Warren School District is following the Mississippi Department of Health’s (MSDH) reporting requirements for known cases of COVID-19 at our schools and offices. The MSDH requires a survey to be submitted weekly by Monday at 12:00 noon for the previous week.  The MS Department of Health reports COVID-19 statistics at: https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14,0,420.html

    For the week of September 29 - October 2, 2020, the  District is reporting the following update on new COVID-19 confirmed cases for students and staff and those being newly quarantined due to possible exposure in this same time period.

    1 new positive confirmed case - student

    MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2020

    For the week of September 21 - September 25, 2020, the District reported one (1) new confirmed positive case of COVID-19 for a student at Vicksburg High School.  Four (4) teacher/staff members and twenty five (25) students at VHS are quarantined. One (1) teacher/staff member at Beechwood Elementary school is quarantined due to possible exposure to COVID-19. 


     

    MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020

     For the week of September 14 - September 18, 2020, the District reported zero (0) new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 for students, and zero (0) new confirmed positive cases for teachers and/or staff. 


     

    MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

     For the week of September 7 - September 11, 2020, the District reported zero (0) new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 for students, and zero (0) new confirmed positive cases for teachers and/or staff. 


     

    TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2020

     For the week of August 31 - September 4, 2020, the District reported zero (0) new positive cases of COVID-19 for students, and zero (0) new cases for teachers and/or staff. 


     

    MONDAY AUGUST 31, 2020

    NEW CASE(S): For the week of August 24 - 28, 2020, the District reported one (1) new positive case of COVID-19 for a student at the Academy of Innovation and one (1) student quarantined due to potential exposure at the Academy of Innovation. 

    TOTAL CASES REPORTED IN DISTRICT SINCE START OF SCHOOL (Not including new cases w/o 8/24 - 8/28)

    Three (3) teachers/staff tested positive

    One (1) teacher/staff quarantined due to possible exposure


    MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2020

    For the week of August 17 - 21, 2020, the District reported three total positive COVID-19 cases for teachers and/or staff and one teacher/staff quarantined due to potential exposure, all at South Park Elementary School.
