VWSD is committed to graduating leaders with credentials!

The Leader In Me initiative that began seven years ago in the elementary schools has been expanded to all three high schools (River City Early College, Vicksburg High, and Warren Central High School). In High Schools, TLIM is often refered to as the LEAD initiative.

The Leader in Me is FranklinCovey’s whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

Content from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a key component of the overall The Leader in Me process. The 7 Habits is a synthesis of universal, timeless principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness, such as responsibility, vision, integrity, teamwork, collaboration and renewal, which are secular in nature and common to all people and cultures.  The Leader in Me is also aligned to many national and state academic standards. The process teaches students the skills needed for academic success in any setting. These skills include critical thinking, goal setting, listening and speaking, self-directed learning, presentation-making and the ability to work in groups.

What does being a Ford Next Generation Learning Community mean to our students? Click here to find out!

The Vicksburg Warren School District in partnership with the Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce has developed a three-year master plan to transform its high schools.

The designation means the Vicksburg Warren College & Career Academies (VWCCA) are joining a national network of communities selected by the Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, that is transforming public high schools into career-themed academies to best prepare students for college and professional success in today’s competitive global economy. Vicksburg will be the first to be designated a Ford Next Generation Learning Community in Mississippi.

Districts in the Ford NGL network have been shown to increase student achievement and engagement both at the high school and postsecondary levels and develop more robust ties between local educators and local employers, generating a stronger talent-development pipeline for local high-demand sectors and overall community prosperity.

Through participating in career-themed academies, Vicksburg Warren School District students will learn academics through the lens of a potential career, such as engineering, healthcare, technology, or marketing, and have the opportunity to participate in internships, job shadowing, and career exploration activities.  This increases relevance of coursework and improves student academic performance and readiness for college and careers.

Ford NGL communities have demonstrated success through higher graduation rates, increased academic achievement, lower dropout rates and a greater number of industry certifications earned in high school.
